About Ethics Services

Labrador-Grenfell Health offers a comprehensive ethics service that can help you work through any ethical dilemma.

Ethics Consultation Service
The The Ethics Consultation Service is available for patients, residents, clients, families, staff or anyone who needs help in making ethical decisions about health care. The reviews are managed by ethics consultation facilitators and conducted by gathering the appropriate and relevant mix of people to discuss the specific case in question. Please refer to the Provincial Health Ethics Network Newfoundland and Labrador (PHENNL) pamphlet for more information.

A final report, including recommendations, will be provided within the timelines that are identified when the request for an ethics review is made.

If you are unsure you require an ethics consult, please review our Clinical Ethics Screening Tool, which will help you evaluate your need for the service. This screen is intended to help you focus on issues that allow you to identify a case or situation appropriate to refer for an ethics consultation.

To request an ethics consultation, you will need to fill out a Request for an Ethics Consultation Information Form and send it to the contact information below.

Ethics Education
The Ethics Service provides ethics in partnership with the Provincial Ethics Network Newfoundland and Labrador (PHENNL) with a goal to influence the ethics culture of Labrador-Grenfell Health through education events and activities. These include:

  • Education sessions available through webinar and teleconference throughout Labrador-Grenfell Health and other Regional Health Authorities.
  • Special sessions are developed for specific areas in response to requests or issues from programs and services.

Policy Review
The Ethics Service provides support and assistance for policy review. Department managers can forward draft policies for review, discussion and feedback as necessary.
