Mental Health and Addictions Services

Mental Health and Addictions Services are offered to the residents of the Labrador - Grenfell region.  Mental Health and Addictions Services staff are located at the three hospitals:  Captain William Jackman Memorial Hospital in Labrador City, Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley - Goose Bay and Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.  Services are also provided in Flower's Cove, Roddickton, Forteau, Port-Hope-Simpson, Cartwright and Churchill Falls.

Our staff are highly qualified professionals with a wide variety of clinical skills and diverse working experience.  Our teams include nurses, social workers and psychologists.  They deal on a daily basis with any number of issues related to mental health concerns and addictions problems.

Outpatient Counseling Services include:

  • Individual counseling
  • Family counseling
  • Couple counseling
  • Youth work
  • Case Management for chronic & persistent mental illness

Referrals can be made directly to any of the staff members or by sending a referral to our department at the appropriate site.  There is usually a waitlist, with an average wait of approximately 4-6 weeks.  Urgent cases will be seen as soon as possible. A person can be referred to our services in a variety of ways such as through a health professional, a community worker or directly from the individual seeking help.

Other Services Include:

  1. Group Sessions.  Topics may vary depending on need.  Previous topics have included:
    • Anxiety
    • Gambling
    • Healthy Living
    • Parenting
    • Relationship & Marriage
    • Self Esteem

2) Workshops and Educational presentations for staff and community members.

3) Critical Incident Stress Debriefings.

4) Consultations are available to other professionals and concerned family / community members.

5) In-Patient (Ward) Work.

6) Referrals to outside agencies as needed.

7) Impaired Driving Assessments.
