Donnie Sampson, VP of Nursing and Chief Nurse, was presented with the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (ARNNL) Award for Excellence in Nursing Administration on June 6, 2016 in Corner Brook at the ARNNL’s annual general meeting.  


The award is presented to a nurse who is nominated by peers for demonstrating a commitment to improving the quality of health care, innovation, leadership and professionalism, lifelong learning and contribution to the nursing profession. The nominees are selected through a rigorous peer review process.


The Award for Excellence recognizes the contributions that Ms. Sampson has made to nursing at Labrador-Grenfell Health and to the nursing profession. Since commencing the VP of Nursing role in 2013, Ms. Sampson has led numerous process improvements that illustrate her commitment to nursing excellence. Regional standards and evidence-based practices have been and continue to be implemented including the Licensed Practical Nurse up-skilling project, Baby Friendly Initiative, Model of Nursing Clinical Practice, Nursing Forums, Wound Management, development and implementation of the Nursing Information Management System, annual workshops for Nurse Managers and standardization of many additional processes. These examples highlight the commitment to nursing excellence and the qualities required to receive the ARNNL Award for Excellence.
