Come out in support of healthcare in Northern Newfoundland and Southern Labrador. Sponsored by the Grenfell Foundation (South Chapter). For more information and to place your name on the volunteer list, please call 454-0244.   Background The first Grenfell Heritage Day Celebrations took place in 1992 as a part of the Grenfell Centennial Celebrations (1892-1992). Heritage Day celebrates the arrival of Dr. Wilfred Grenfell to Northern Newfoundland and Labrador in 1892. He devoted his life to improving life for the people of Northern Newfoundland and Labrador. Grenfell Heritage Day is an annual event, held in St. Anthony, which is hosted by the Grenfell Foundation in July. It provides an opportunity for family and friends to come together to celebrate the Grenfell Legacy and our Newfoundland and Labrador culture. It also gives the Grenfell Foundation and the Labrador-Grenfell Health staff a chance to show their appreciation to the region by volunteering their services. While Heritage Day events vary from year to year, the one thing that remains consistent is the fun and support of the people who participate. Below are just some of the events that have taken place over the years:
  • Community Breakfast
  • Teddy Bear Picnic
  • Musical Performances
  • Face Painting
  • Ticket Raffles on Numerous Prizes
  • Souvenir Sales
  • Newfie “Mug-Up” (homemade bread and molasses, roasted capelin, fisherman’s brewis)
  • Auxiliary Craft and Bake Sale
The Grenfell Foundation extends a warm welcome to everyone, including tourists in the area, to come and enjoy the Newfoundland music and friendly hospitality. Everyone is sure to have a wonderful time.
