Expansion of Home-Based Dialysis Program on the North Coast of Labrador

Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services announces a new Home-Based Dialysis Program has been launched on the North Coast of Labrador following expansion of renal services. This is a joint program made possible through support from local communities and partnerships.

This announcement marks a significant achievement whereby eligible patients from the Innu First Nations communities of Natuashish and Sheshatshiu can access renal care within their local clinics. Training for patients and families takes place within the Labrador Health Centre in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. Home-Based Dialysis clinic spaces have been established in both communities on the North Coast with nursing oversight in Happy-Valley Goose Bay and Nephrology oversight in the Eastern Urban zone of Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services.

The implementation of the Home-Based Dialysis Program was made possible through partnerships with Mushuau Innu First Nation, Sheshatshiu Innu First Nation, Rotary International and the International Grenfell Association.
