Temporary changes at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital to begin July 1, 2021

Public Notice – June 23, 2021

Labrador-Grenfell Health is providing the public with an update around temporary summer changes being implemented at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony from July 1, 2021 until September 30, 2021.

The health authority has been collaborating with teams at the hospital to finalize plans for these changes which will allow staff to take much needed annual leave from July to September.

After reviewing proposed options, local teams, including physicians, nurses and leadership have provided their support and approval of the following temporary changes:

  • Reducing operating room capacity;
  • Reducing Intensive Care bed capacity from 4 to 2 – beds to remain in their current location;
  • Cohorting patients that require Registered Nursing care to ensure the best utilization of available resources; and
  • Cohorting patients who are currently waiting in acute care for other services including long-term care, to ensure appropriate skill mix is provided.

Labrador-Grenfell Health has worked with other regional health authorities and medical transportation to ensure that patients in the region continue to be cared for during these changes.

These changes are being implemented to ensure the best use of our resources and ensuring teams can easily support one another on the floor while staff take their deserved breaks.
