February is Heart Month
Heart Healthy at Any Age
February is Heart Month: It’s important to keep your heart healthy at any age. Children aged 5-11 need 60 minutes of physical activity daily; this includes both structured and unstructured activities. Play is important too. Children this age also need 9-11 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night. Serve plain water when your child is thirsty. Sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, fruit drinks, fruit punches, sports drinks and flavoured water contain a lot of added sugar or artificial sweeteners with little or no nutritional value.

As part of Heart Month, the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada released the 2017 Report on Health, The Kids are Not Alright – Food Marketing to Kids. Below you will find two links to Heart & Stroke videos on how the food and beverage industry is marketing to children and youth.
